Hope for America! No. 1: The Pro-Life Majority
http://www.ncregister.com/site/article/16521/ ....Reality is slowly overtaking the abortion debate. Each year, a larger majority of Americans reports to pollsters that they are pro-life. It is only a matter of time before revulsion against abortion will reach a critical mass — a “tipping point,” to use a marketing phrase. At that point, predominant cultural attitudes toward the right to life will swing so far so quick, it will appear to have changed “overnight,” whereas in reality this respect

Progressive Women’s Voices Seeks Applicants for 2009
Many have asked me about the Progressive Women’s Voices program sponsored by the Women’s Media middle, and basically, I can’t sing its praises enough. In the program’s first year, they intensively media trained 33 women (including moi!) who have gone on to earn over 1000 media hits year to date. With the WMC’s stellar training and ongoing help, in 2008, our PWV women wrote Op Eds in the Washington Post and The New York Times, features for Elle and New York magazine, were quoted in USA Today, Fo

The Voyage of the Junk Raft
In an effort to lift public support for legislation limiting the use of disposable plastics, “eco-mariners” Marcus Erikson and Joel Paschal (working with ground support from Anna Cummins) fashioned a thirty-foot raft from 15,000 plastic bottles and an old Cessna fuselage. Paschal and Erikson piloted the craft–christened Junk–from California to Hawaii. Over the course of their thirteen-week journey, the pair traversed a region of the Pacific Ocean that holds, by weight, more plastic garbage

Pictures From the Internut
The Sun takes a slightly different angle in that it goes to the cemetary where Baby Peter's ashes are scattered. No doubt this will receive many Guardianistas foaming at the mouth, as a piece of exploitative journalism - but strangely it is moving to know there is no plaque, and that the ashes are scattered close those of his gran. Maybe she is looking after him at this very minute. The Sun describe it as a 'paupers grave' - which in a sense it is. And strangely the lack of a memorial - I am not t

iPhone homebrew: dTunes v2.5 now with Torrent support There’s a new version of dTunes out, bringing the homebrew iTunes replacement up to version 2.5. What’s even cooler is that it also converts any media file to a format suitable for the iPhone and iPod Touch upon downloading. The catch here

Arianna Huffington Hosts the Rachel Maddow Show
Arianna Huffington subbed in for Rachel Maddow on her show last night (as for any previous bad blood incurred between Arianna and MSNBC? According to TVNewser, it's every water below the bridge). Falling away from tumblr
I have a tumblog: afhill.tumblr.com. I created it after a discussion with former co-worker Matt Sidesinger. At the time, I asked him why someone would use tumblr as opposed to delicious: I viewed it as a place to store information online (rather than as a primary blog of thoughts). Matt’s explanation made sense to me: it was a way to display things in a more graphical manner; delicious links were for his possess use, a tumblog was a way to share things with others. Trying to Make Saudi Roads Safer
This article appears in Saudi Gazette. It correctly points out that one of the principal problems with driving in Saudi Arabia—and one of the main causes for accidents—is a clash of driving cultures exhibited by the many nationalities who steer in the Kingdom. If you grew up driving in India or the US, you cannot bring the driving customs of those places and expect them to work smoothly in Saudi Arabia. For the Saudis themselves, they are only now coming to a time where young Saudis learned thr
